Things to do in the Arnold, CA area

Camp Connell
  • The Camp Connell General Store at the bottom of the hill has a bar, cafe, gas station, and a small shop. They sometimes host an outdoor beer garden with music in the summer.

Dorrington
  • A mile down Highway 4 you can find the Lube Room. They have drinks, great bar food, a nice patio, as well as occasional events. 

Bear Valley (~25 min drive to ski area parking lot)
  • Bear Valley Resort has downhill and X-country skiing. Sledding and snowmobiling are nearby.
  • Lake Alpine is a scenic reservoir at 7350 feet, covering 180 acres at a depth of 40 feet. You can rent boats, swim, fish, and hike in the summer.

Calaveras Big Trees State Park
  • The park is about 5 minutes down towards Arnold, the park has hiking, nature programs, and more.

Arnold 
  • The only grocery store is Big Trees Market. It has a good selection.
  • There are a few shops and many restaurants in Arnold. You need a reservation at Sarafina’s and Dogwood, both excellent. 
  • Snowshoe Brewery has take-and-bake pizza, an arcade, and, uh, beer.
  • The Ace Hardware has a wide selection of everything. There’s also a sporting goods store and more to explore in town.
  • White Pines Lake has a public beach for swimming in the summer.

Murphys (~25 min drive down)
  • The Sierra Hills Market is the closest thing to Whole Foods in the area. 
  • You should check out Main Street. It is very cute and lined with nice restaurants, shops, and winery tasting rooms. 
  • Mercer Caverns is a historic cave located in Murphys.

Angels Camp
  • Experience Gold Rush charm in the wild west downtown.
  • There is also a museum.
